Nine of the artists who were previously unrepresented by galleries
have since obtained gallery representation, thirteen have been included in
museum exhibitions, and six artists have received grants or residencies.
LAVA 2002 was identified by former Seattle Art Museum Chief Curator
Lisa Corrin as the “art bible” of Seattle and the accompanying exhibition
one of the most important exhibitions of the year.
Advanced notice of the published book incited art critics to write numerous
articles which in turn created a buzz in the arts community.
The exhibition drew a large attendance of local collectors, curators,
collectors, dealers as well as the general public.
Its success prompted other organizations to publish art books, i.e. SOIL
Received the Seattle Show Design Award in 2004, honoring the
best in design and advertising.
